The Tape Recorder Scene

I Just wanted to start this thread to see how many other people liked the tape rocorder scene as much as I did. I thought that this was the funniest part in the movie. Woody Allen really shows his knack for slap stick humor in this scene. I think that the timing and the writing is just wonderful.

Loved it.

Particularly liked when he's wrestling with his tape deck & it cuts to the man on the other end of the phone (name escapes me, Mr King?) for a second & then cuts back to the four of them & he is sitting amoungst them all with spools & spools of unwound tape in a ball in his hands with a great panic-struck look on his face!

Hi-larious!

Great scene. For me, one of the funniest movie scene ever.

I think that this is the last very good Woody Allen movie.

I liked the part when the tape recorder said they were refrigerating her.

"Paul, I can't talk right now"
"Hold on."

"Helen! Helen! Calm down. You're hysterical!!"

reply

Yes.. this was definitely the funniest thing I'd seen in ages. The last time I laughed that hard.. was the scene in Broadway Danny Rose.. when they're running from the gunman and he shoots at the helium filled trucks. Hah hah hahah ahahha!

reply

yes, that was pure slapstick comedy. "Inter-Paul", lol

Hold on this thread is casting a pall.....

Haha, me, too. I remember the first time I saw this film, watching it with my mother - neither of us could stop laughing. The funniest part for me was when they kept inserting the "Hold on." line whenever they needed extra time: I mean, who just randomly says that several times over in the course of a conversation?

I really thought this was one of the funniest scenes in any movie.

Woody trying to play his tape was hysterical. played it at the wrong moment, then couldnt play it at the right time, fumbled around with it, somehow ended up removing the entire black tape of the cassette by the end... I was dying of laughter!! classic woody.

Every time I watch this scene, I am literally ON THE FLOOR laughing. Even Angelica Huston's character crumples when their plan goes askew. Hilarious stuff.

Woody fumbling with the un-spooled tape. LOL!!

reply

To me, Woody messing up the tape was predictable and not really funny.

reply

It reminded me of a scene w/Allen and Keaton in "Sleeper," but I thought this scene was much funnier.

reply

That sucks for you. Good luck with that.

reply

Thanks. I've managed to cope OK the last four and a half years.

reply

Is that how you respond to anyone who has an opinion different to your own?

reply

Yes, I was thinking of the soundboard pranks also. This movie was way ahead of its time.

Woody did a lot of homages to classic Hollywood, so that's quite possible. I haven't seen "Unfaithfully Yours," but I know a recording device figures prominently. I'll have to see that out. Please let me know if you see it first. Thanks.

I have to admit this is my favourite scene of the movie.

Absolutely hilarious.
