Lab Scenes

At the risk of opening myself up to all kinds of abuse for being an animal lover, can anybody shed any light on those disturbing scenes in the research lab? I'm talking about the rabbits, cats, and monkeys that had bits and pieces cut off. Were those actual test animals? They looked real and I had a hard time appreciating the camp value of the rest of the film. Any info, anyone? Thanks in advance...

"No, but I seem to feel better when they're not around."

I'm sure that the scenes in the movie are special effects done to the animals, but they are probably extremly true in real life and that's why they were put in the movie, to raise awareness of people to what actually goes on in the test labs.

To me that's a crime in itself. I can no longer watch the movie Project X because of what they do to the Chimps in the movie, I have no doubt that somewhere they actually do that.

Thanks for your response. I can take almost anything from a movie except animal abuse, real or fake!
