I liked the movie and I was on Max's side!

I wanna get this movie on DVD. Like Cujo, I was on Max's side. he wasn't gonna kill Ally Sheedy at the end, that idiot doctor was a frickin bafoon!
I thought it was adorable how they started playing "Puppy Love" when Max goes to "visit" Heidi and they make those cute little puppies!
Burmese Mountain dogs are beautiful animals and if I were Max and gotten mistreated like he did I'd go after their asses too! I thought it was funny how he flushed the poison food down the toilet and knew how to flush the bowl! LOL Go Max!
A place where I buy my dog food for my two dogs, the owner has a Burmese Mountain Dog and the dog is an angel! When she sees me, she lays down for me to rub her tummy! If I lived in a more open rural area, I'd love to get one but I know my family would have a stroke as I have two dogs already.
Just outta curiosity, does anyone know like how those dogs adapt to weather changes and what kinda food they like to eat and how much? Coz if I ever get one I wanna know all this before hand.

I was on his side, too!

i wasn't on his side when he raped the poor collie. she didn't deserve it. :(

And he was not a Bernese Mountain Dog. He was a Tibetan Mastiff.

Ugh, I hated this movie.

I definitely WASN'T on Max's side and was happy to see him killed in the end.
But then, I don't care for dog's that much...

I wasn't happy when the cat was eaten either.

The only reason I still haven't seen this movie. I don't know what's wrong with me, I'll watch anything else... eat a person, eat a baby, I'm not that bothered, but I can't cope with movie cat deaths. I think my crazy cat lady mother brainwashed me as a baby or something

i love Bernese Mt Dogs but I actually think Max was a Tibetan Mastiff -- and yes I was totally on his side too! I absolutely used to hate the ending (still do) - i would cry and cry as a little girl watching this movie...

here is a online review of Bernese Mt. Dogs, from an Obedience/Behavioral Dog trainer. Michelle Welton's knowledge on dogs really helped me find the perfect breed for me.

I couldn't hear my own footsteps. It was the walk of a dead man.

How could anyone possibly be on Max's side? He randomly kills a mailman, tries to kill a postman, eats a bird, rapes another dog, eats a cat whole, etc.

The dog is like the personification of evil. Kind of scary to see people on 'his side'. Surely that wouldn't be the case if Max were a human being (serial killer)?

reply

Probably because the mailman deserved it for spraying neighborhood dogs with mace just for fun. Every "human" in this movie that Max killed or tried to kill deserved it except for the boyfriend.

As for eating the bird and attacking the cat (eating him was still an "attack") and "raping" (i.e, mating with) the dog, Max just did what dogs do anyway with a little more aggression but nothing unexpected.

Again, the humans asked for it by being unnecessarily cruel to him.

None of that is justification for murder. Any man who did this would be convicted of 1st degree murder, and rightfully so.

what he did to the junkyard guy was totally deserved. Go max.

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for enough good men to do nothing.

Killing the guy that attacked them in the parking lot and had attacked others – He deserved it.

Killing the guy at the junk yard – He deserved it he was cruel to the dog and hit him over the head with a shovel. Lied saying he had a nice farm for the dog when he did not.

Killing the mail man- Did not really deserve it but he did attack him first by spraying mace at him.

Killing that Police officer – Don’t recall him doing anything to deserve that.

Going after the boyfriend - He did not deserve it but I think he was jealous its happened where a dog can be jealous of a significant other. Then after he tried to poison him, grant it after he chewed the breaks. The boyfriend didn't really seem to like him from the start, animals know when someone does not like them. He wanted the dog to sleep in the yard yes some dogs are outdoor dogs but to do that too a poor creature who has lived in cage most of his life and been abused and experimented on.

Eating the cat harsh yes but the boys did sic him on the cat. Raping the collie hardly it is the way of the wild many male animals “force” themselves on females just watch a wild animal documentary.

Not likely. Any human who had been made into a killing machine, but had been kind and good to some would get sympathy from some people and possibly could be guilty but insane.

I do not think that some people on here being on Max's side means they liked him killing people and animals. I think they just mean they were in sympathy with him for all the bad things that happened to him. It was not his fault how he acted as he was made that way. I think some people on here simply mean they wished he could stay alive and maybe learn to be a normal dog.

Haha I have loved this movie since I was a kid. I was on Max's side too. And later in life when I watched this with a friend she and I couldn't help but laugh and root for Max. He was awesome.

There was no reason to laugh in this movie or root for Max. While we can have sympathy for him and understand is reasons for killing, killing is wrong. Max, the killer, was not awesome. Max who loved Lori was. But he was also a crazed, mixed up and tortured dog.

Well he wasn't all "dog" he had multiple animal DNA in him...comparing him to a serial killer is ludicrous! Yes dogs are very intelligent, but this dog killed because he had an almost uncontrollable rage. They had to keep him heavily medicated to keep him under control. When he escaped his cage, it was only a matter of time before the madness took over. He couldn't help what he was, he was essentially "made" that way. He did love the girl though and I always thought that was very sweet. I loved this movie as a little girl and I though Max was awesome!
