What did the kid have to do with the story? i really don't understand. why did nicole kidman want the kid dead?

Bill Pullman made Nicole Kidman believe that the kid witnessed Alec Baldwin giving Kidman the injections of the drug that caused her to have the operation, leading to everything that happened. It was a bluff, as the kid was blind and could not have witnessed anything.

Where did it say that the child was blind?

They didn't "say" it, they "showed" it at the end of the movie when he gets out of the car with his walking stick, thereby indicating,...he is blind.
