An amazing film

This film is so beautiful to look at. The colour red features throughout as symbol of blood and death, as well as desire. The interiors, costumes, make up and way the faces of the actors are lit make this so exquisite.

The story is perverse not least because it changes from violence to humour in a flash. The film is peppered with lots of subtle, and not so subtle, sexual scenes/references: Sex itself, masturbation, lesbianism, menage a trois, chocolate and blood.

The central character, Ismael, is a complicated character whose actions are often violent and/or murderous yet he cannot bring himself to kill Leire and neither can he abide swearing! I think the ending of the film with Ismael on the train and the nappy changing before he returns to the home in which Leire lived showed him regressing and becoming an emotional baby.

I agree this was an amazing film. The scene before the one you described involving the chocolate and the rain was very poignant and powerful.

Long live the 70's!

Nice to find another who has seen the film and appreciates it.

I don't recall this but then it's been a while since I watched the film.
I give my respect to those who have earned it; to everyone else, I'm civil.
