the point was that he wanted to turn kane on, show him that he was indeed "like that" and when he got him way turned on he left him high and dry with his pants around his ankles. partially to humiliate him, partially to turn him on, partially because it turned him (david) on.

just directed the play version of this in October. freakin LOVE this story.

Something along that line ... but I had a different impression.

He liked Kane but in a friendly way. Like some hetero guys like their female best friend. I don't think David ever wanted to have sex with Kane in the first place. Kane was young, impressionable and confused about his own sexuality. David just enjoyed to screw around with him.

In order to understand that you have to keep in mind how often homosexuals have to defend themselves for their sexuality. And how annoying it is to read and hear time and again the word "gay" being used as a negative adjective for everything unmanly. And in turn heteros being busy proving that they are NOT gay ("hey, I like boobs, okay, I just happen to like listening to Duran Duran"). So, trying to "turn" a selfproclaimed hetero into a homo, or at least getting him to admit his bisexual tendencies, is rewarding for gay men in many ways: First, they get what joethewonderboy said: It's an ego-boost to know that you turned someone on. It's like women that enjoy hooking up men and driving them crazy more than the actual sexual intercourse that might follow.
But secondly they kind of "win" by successfully seducing a male that thought of himself as straight. It's a kind of small victory against homophobia.

So, my impression was that David already "won" his game when Kane dropped the pants and passed "reaping the reward" because his point was already proven. I would even go as far as claiming he was a bit disappointed, telling by the look of his face. I am not sure if he was disappointed about how fast he won or if he was disappointed because he won at all. But my interpretation is that he played this game way too often and that the result is always the same. Like a good chess player that is bored that he wins time and again using the same trick every time.
