Worst Movie Ever

Whenever people bring up bad movies, i always whip out "Little Buddha." Sure, "Gigli" might be bad, but what about Little Buddha?

I mean, Keanu Reeves plays Buddha. !?!

reply

Now, I wouldn't go as far as to say "Little Buddah" is the worst movie ever. I think Keanu did a fine job, and the film is beautiful to look at, and it makes you think a little bit about spirituality, and what one's purpose is in life. While it wasn't a blockbuster by any means, it certainly isn't terrible. If you want to see a terrible Keanu Reeves film, watch "Even Cowgirls Get The Blues." Now THAT'S bad.

reply

I agree, and "The Watcher" is also too bad Keanu movie but not Little Buddha!

reply

How about Johnny Mnemonic? And Chain Reaction? And Sweet November?

I really liked Little Buddha, simply beautifully directed, i gave it a 9 and I don't do that often

-I have a dream!"
-What is your dream?"
-To have a dream"

"Now, I wouldn't go as far as to say "Little Buddah" is the worst movie ever . . ."

actually, nobody says "worst movie ever" except kids who shouldn't be on the Internet.

Yes, Keanu playing Buddha is weird, but this isn't a Keanu film. If you say it's bad, you're going to hae to give us a little more insight into your thought process, other than playing the "Keanu Reeves card."

Firstly, "Little Buddha" is directed by Bertolucci. That should need no further explanation for anyone who has some solid film knowledge. Secondly, the Director of Photography is Storaro, and again, that speaks for itself (and it speaks volumes).

In the hands of a director who knows what he's doing and a DP who is the best in the business, the craft side of the film shouldn't be in question. So that must mean you have a problem with the story. That's fine... maybe it's just not your kinda story. It's paced somewhat slowly and puts a lot of emphasis on internal emotions and spiritual problems/developments. Not everyone digs that kind of movie.

I give this movie an eight out of ten (8/10) for a wonderfully told story with visuals that are at times breathtaking. It's not the true story of the Buddha, but even Lama Norbu addresses that issue when talking with Dean.

This is one of my favorite films... it's one that I can watch over and over again and still be entertained, and it's one that inspired me to become a film major.

All should Heed their words!
^_^
Well said...Also gives a nice view to some aspects of Buddhism...
I like how in the begining the colours of the film are very grey, and dull, but as you progress through the film, it gradually grows to full illumination and colour...
My world religions teacher said he kept fidling with the colour through out the movie and then at the end was like "Duh!"

An even worse movie than Little Buddha, which also happens to star Keanu, would be ALL THREE of the Matrix movies. Get a life "dude." I thought this moveie was probably one of the better movies I've ever seen that had Keanu Reeves name attached to it.

reply

Worst movie ever? What about "Booty Call," or "The Postman" or "Major League 3"? Let's not forget Waterworld, Cyborg 2, Undercover Brother, or that awful wrestling movie with David Arquette. Little Buddha was excellent. What was wrong with it? The actors were great and the script was well done. I would give it an A+ for filmaking.

reply

I'm weird, I know. I actually enjoyed both The Postman and Waterworld. Although Waterworld gets less interesting and more plodding and boring every time I see it. The Postman I've actually seen two or three times all the way through and it was enjoyable every time. Not sure why people have this thing about Costner movies.

But it's like I said: I'm weird.

Can't wait to see Open Range. Renting it probably this weekend or next. Came recommended from close friends as a return to true "Western" filmmaking.

The WORST movie ever??? I'm not sure how you could come to that conclusion. Would you explain further? I think perhaps you are just one of the legion of "Keanu haters" that pop up all over Internet chat rooms? I thought he was perfectly cast in this role and loved this movie. It was lovely to look at and affords the viewer with a chance to see the story of the Buddha in a very entertaining format.

reply

Right, no tits, no explosions, no Ah-nold to break jaws and limbs, and to top it all, it expects you to think! That's outrageous! Worst movie ever!

I'm a buddhist, and I'm not offended by anyone playing prince siddhartha. It's in the nature of buddhists to forgive.
As for Freddy got Fingered, well, it's to be looked at from the point of view of Tom Green. It's a masterpeice of a movie. One of my favourite. By the way, Never seen Little Buddha

reply

Please don't put the legend of Tom Green in worst movies of all time. Anyone who is able to pick up there own Razzie is No.1 in my book. As for Little Buddha I am in the middle of watching it for the first time. The fact that I can write this and watch at the same time , either says something good about my typing or bad about the movie

I've watched this movie several times already. It's an enjoyable movie. It's not the best movie in the world, but it's certainly not the worst. There are many more movies worse than this. I consider this a pretty good movie.

Keanu Reeves also did a great job as The Buddha.

You seem to hate the movie just for the fact that Keanu played the Buddha.

all i have to say is after the fact that keanu is known for his surfer attitude such as bill and teds excellent adventure, hearing him speak in that accent is hilarious

i think they could have gotten someone better to play buddha, maybe an actual buddah.......

reply

the Bill and Ted movies ruined Keanu for me! All I can think of when I watch other movies with him in it is his his character Ted. The accent! gah. [by the way, I love Bill and Ted movies, but I just can't get past it!]

reply

but Keanu Reeves is an actual Buddha, as is taught in the Mahayana tradition, all beings are already perfectly enlightened and have Buddha nature within them :)

reply

Preach it!

I couldn't believe how god-awful this movie was. It was astoundingly bad. Atrocious even.

I love Stealing Beauty, I liked the Dreamers, I know what Bertolucci is capable of and I have a really, really hard time believing he directed this crap.

Even without Keanu, it would have been awful... but he certainly brought it to a new level of suckitude.

""Worst Movie Ever"".....This is very strange:))
