If you don't understand the film, you're obviously not old enough to watch it.

Now it has been at least 8 years since i saw this movie but if i remember correctly she put a crayon "in" her thinking that it would stop her father from being able to be "in".. her..

I figured she did it like many kids do, by stupid kids' curiosity. Most kids stick things places they shouldn't, like marbles in their ears or pebbles in their noses. They learn not to eventually, of course.

What blew my mind about this movie was how the heck damage from a crayon stuck there is comparable to the damage that would be seen from a man's penis?! Why was that even an issue? The doctors and so-called specialists can't see how the damage would surely be much worse????!!!
Or was it just to cast reasonable doubt on her story?

here's my thought on this. Christina said her father started abusing her when she was 6 or 7 years old. Kelly is 11 in the movie, and the crayon story happened 4 years before, which would have put Kelly at 7 years old - the same time frame, and likely when her father started abusing her. so here's this little girl, being hurt - and i mean physically hurt, because anal intercourse is still somewhat painful for a full-grown woman who is having consensual sex, let alone a tiny little girl being raped - and possibly looking for a way to make it hurt less. she has a large bath crayon that is likely a comparable size to her father's penis. she may have been using it to try to stretch herself out so he wouldn't hurt so much. the one time Christina knows about may not be the only time she did it, so she may have damaged herself quite badly with the crayon - but no worse, of course, than how much he damaged her. all of that speculation aside, yes, the defense would have used that information to cast reasonable doubt on her story. poor little girl.

Oh, there's no describing the blind anger that poor kid must have felt; even I wanted to clobber her sister. Repressing the memory is the only thing that could possibly explain what was going on in her sister's mind to deny what was happening. I'm so sorry for what you went through Grace.

You know, after that incident, I remember being angry with the social worker too; I can't remember if she acted impatient with the girl, but she handled it so badly when she hugged her and asked to come live with her.

I just watched Christina's testimony again for the first time in years, and it made me so furious with her I was temporarily devoid of any empathy. The fact that she not only made public such details about Kelly, but the WAY she put things, and when she knew what kind of creep he was? Saying she couldn't imagine why Kelly was doing that and that she always made up stuff to avoid responsibility?? Then the worst insult: that maybe Kelly was doing it because she was mad that her dad "loved them more", meaning the others. How could she DO that? I kept watching until Christina's explosion, and just like that my grief for her came flooding back. What a potent movie.
