I saw this back in 1993 in the theater and it was a staple of my childhood. But it has always bugged me how many cuts and sores that kid has on his hands. Just like us all I was a kid once too but I never had that many cuts on my hands, especially around my finger nail like this kid has. What the hell did he do? Stick his hand in a blender??

Yeah. He had them before he even was robbed at knife point at his apartment. I'm guessing maybe a criminal or a bully from school did that.

I recall an earlier thread about this. My suspicion has always been that the actor boy had had warts on his hands that were surgically removed just before filming.

shareMy immediate thought was that those cuts were probably make up, and were relevant to an earlier scene in the movie which was later cut from the film. Like maybe there was initially more character development on the kid. He got in a fight at school and went to the movies. Couldn't help but think that a writer was working in some form of explanation about the kid's fixation on escapism.
They wouldn't just leave those cuts on his hand in the film and point the camera right at it. Even if the cuts were already there, they would cover them with make up.
It's possible that the makeup may have contaminated his hand, which is why they are avoiding it. As audience, we need to consider the possibility that Danny was involved in a physical altercation, perhaps having punched another child, which could explain the presence of bruises on his hand. This fits with what we know, about him not having friends.
