I recently rewatched this and it actually isn't that bad, hell it's honestly pretty good, the jokes were funny and it was a pretty clever satire of action films, and it has aged pretty well too, and it has Arnie in it, how did this movie flop? I am honestly asking this.

shareStill love it to this day and was the very first Arnold Schwarzenegger movie I saw in the theatre because Jurassic park was full and was the same age as the kid in the movie too and got all the self references Arnold made about himself like the hamlet scene made fun of his Conan days and so forth.

shareIt made $50 million more than it's budget thanks to worldwide, but yeah that would have certainly been more had it not been for Jurassic Park.
It also went over people's heads a bit, still does by the look of it's rating.
It's quite similar to True Lies in a way but much less subtle actually and people (me being one of them) really like that movie.
Maybe that is the problem though True Lies is so subtle that generally people can not see the satire whereas this one is more obvious which forces a lot of people to watch it from more than a perspective than they are used to.
They can watch and enjoy an obvious spoof like say Mel Brooks (which hasn't really aged well), but Last Action Hero is so close to the material it is satirising right down to casting Arnie, having a big action director and action writer that it just messes with them more than they are used to.
That poster board with Sylvester Stallone as The Terminator though, I bet they were laughing so hard when they made that.
This movie actually has a big fan base an i have never meet someone who hates it but the score here is very low this movie isnt perfect but arnold is very fun here an charles dance is great as the villain also the film is very fun the script is a little messy in parts but never bad the film switches tones well what we have here is a action film that parodies action films if this film was a huge hit we would have gotten a sequel to be honest i would rather have had a last action hero 2 then another terminator after 2
shareIt's very underrated, as far as I'm concerned. Yeah I was a fan of it back in the day, but even now I don't agree with the negative reviews. Perhaps it's a genuinely bad movie to some viewers, but I'm certain that it flew over a lot of people's heads. It's clever, well-constructed, and also pretty damn entertaining.
You want something corny? You got it!
A movie that does what we all do when watching movies, critique by calling out obvious flaws, who couldn't like it.

I can't read Hamlet without Arnie's version running through my head.
Arnold himself is a very underrated actor, I think.
However I thought everyone in this film was excellent.
I am surprised at the low score....but I often disagree with IMDB scores.
