Adrian Pasdar's narration.
It's a funny coincidence that Adrian Pasdar (especially his narration) sounds alot like Martin and Charlie Sheen.

shareLOL. I was thinking the exact same thing when I watched it. "Isn't that Martin Sheen from Apocalypse Now!?!?" LMAO
shareNo coincidence. This director also did Hearts of Darkness, the documentary about Apocolypse Now.
shareWell Sheen is in it. Are you sure it wasn't him?
shareAs another poster noted, Sheen is in the film, and the narration is made to sound like him, because director Hickenlooper favors the auteurist approach, tying several elements of each of his films together in some way. Same reason his main character is given a background at Yale, Hickenlooper's alma mater, and the director himself appears as the effeminate portrait painter in the beginning (a nod to his sideline in documentary profiles of media personalities -- including Monte Hellman, who edited this film). The inclusion of APOCALYPSE NOW's star should be taken as a comment on the brutality of the Civil War, and how these apocalypses just keep on happening...
shareI know that when I watched part of the commentary (it was getting late so I had to stop) he repeatly mentioned "Apocalypse Now", he had to mention it like twenty times in the first ten minutes it was kind of like he was remaking it except in the civil war.
