Couldn't Hammond had just paid Nedry some extra? I mean he was a senior programmer who seemed to be in control of the most important aspects of the park. You also had what appeared to be a volatile relationship with him, so just pay him (since he controlled all the keys to the kingdom) until you get a replacement. If you can't get a replacement in time, well you "spared no expense".

Knight should have got more roles after this. He played the character given to him perfectly.

Yes but that's hubris for you and what Crichton was getting at. Hammond thought he took care of everything but this one oversight led to the park's failure. In the book it's more elaborated that Hammond (who is far less sympathetic or even likable compared to the movie) did kind of screw Nedry over.

Yes, that's what I've heard. I have never read the book, but may one day. Everyone says it's pretty good, but Hammond's character is much different than the portrayal.
