https://screenrant.com/jurassic-park-fantasy-reboot-cast-wish-list/

Brian Cox - John Hammond

Mr. Arnold - Bokine Woodbine

Lex - Mckenna Grace

Timmy - Jacob Tremblay

Nedry - Paul Walter Hauser

Gennaro - Brett Gelman

Muldoon - Iain Glen

Ian Malcolm - Kumail Nanjiani

Ellie Sattler - Gillian Jacobs

Alan Grant - David Harbour

reply

Jeff Goldblum and Sam Neil would be just fine...no need for a cast change there.

Laura Dern on the other hand, I always felt she was a weak link for the film.

If it were made today?
Alan Grant - Jennifer Lawrence
Eddie Sattler - Christopher Mintz Plaas

Because you can be sure there would be some gender character reversal

reply

EVERY POST DOES NOT NEED THOSE KIND OF COMMENTS.

reply

True...but this one does

What's kind of funny is Ellie Sattler is much younger(Early 20's) and described as muscular and very attractive in the book. I'm pretty sure she was a grad assistant for Grant in the book.

Many of the other characters noticed and even hit(this was show by Malcom in the movie) on Ellie. Grant took pleasure in having a young and attractive girlfriend. He would typically not let on that they were a couple and people wouldn't find out until after they had made a pass at her.

I would say our good friend Kathleen Kennedy(Who was a producer and assistant to SS on JP) didn't like the female portrayal and insisted an older, and only moderately attractive but very strong(attitude/Personality) actor be cast as her.

Women Inherits the Earth/ We can discuss sexism in survival situations when I get back
Pretty sure those were lines added.

They even took some of the action scenes from male characters and gave to Laura Dern.

Laura Dern was only around 25 when Jurassic Park was filmed, so not really much older. It's a very long time since I read the book (a year or two before the film came out) but I do recall that they altered the character of Ellie -- but they did so most of the principal characters as I remember.

The biggest atrocity was the softening of Hammond into a twee, cuddly grandpa complete with unconvincing accent.

reply

All that may be true but I will not complain about that casting choice. Laura Dern killed it in that movie and she was cute enough, especially in her khaki shorts.

Dude, Ty Simpkins is way too old now, and Irrfan Khan is dead!

reply

Honestly, Jimmy Fallon as Gennaro is pretty spot on.

How many more of these posts are we getting? They pop up for every movie older than a decade or so now. It's as annoying as videos on youtube where someone posts "Anybody here in 2021?".

reply

I'll happily sign off on Paul Walter Hauser as Nedry. The same for Iain Glen for Muldoon. That's inspired casting.

Jacob Tremblay as Tim is probably also good.

A definite no on Kumail as Ian Malcolm. He doesn't fit at all into that role.

I'd have to think about the rest.

Hammond: Hopkins
Grant: The Rock
Ellie: Rebecca Hall
Ian: BCooper
Muldoon: BCranston

Horrible recast. Except for Gillian Jacobs. Where is the diversity? Grant should be a transgendered black woman. So we can teach tolerance and acceptance and realize it is our differences that make us so strong!
