Grant and Satler wouldn't have necessarily been out of a job

The existence of the park implied there would be no need for paleontologists anymore but I don't think that's true. Paleontology is still an important tool in the study of extant species in that it helps figure out their evolutionary ancestry through the study of fossils. A lot has been learned about whales specifically and how they transformed from four-legged terrestrial animals into the completely aquatic species we have today.

I don't think they would have been out of a job either. Hammond was very fond of Grant and Sattler and I think if the park hadn't of turned into a disaster, it was only a matter of time before Grant and Sattler were offered positions at the park. Their extensive knowledge of dinosaurs would have made them very valuable employees and Hammond would have seen that.

It may have worked out that way for them but I was talking about how the characters thought the field of paleontology as a whole would become obsolete, which I don't think would have happened.

Yeah, I see what you're saying and I agree. I don't think it would have shut down paleontology altogether for the simple reason... The Dinosaurs of Jurassic Park weren't entirely natural. There were only fragments of their natural DNA that were used during the cloning process and the rest was frog DNA to fill in the blanks. Experts in paleontology probably would have raised that argument eventually as well... Arguing that Jurassic Park only cloned their own version of what dinosaurs were like instead of what mother nature really made them like. I find it funny how even no one in the novel raised that point to Hammond. Maybe Michael Crichton overlooked this...

In jurassic world there's a scene where Grant is working at the arcade at the new visitors center.

I love it!

We have to show the world that not all of us are like him: Henning von Tresckow.

I don't think they really believe they'd be out of a job. They were just making a joke about extinction
