Is The Poor Section Of Chicago Really That Dangerous At Night???

When I watched this movie, the residential district they got stranded in seemed like a lawless wasteland where people were either afraid or violent. No help from the LAW could be found anywhere and in a desperate move, they smashed into a business building and cheered in joy when the security alarm started blaring, meaning help would be on the way. Talk about a dire situation.

Yes, they can be that bad. I was driving around in Chicago about ten years ago and I had a cop tailing me. The moment I entered a certain poor area of the city, that is when the cop turned around.

My old boss also told me about when he was talking to a Chicago cop he told him that if he is ever in that side of town at night to not even stop for stop signs or red lights...

Yes Chicago is that bad. Their are shooting almost every night. Cops respond time is a lot better than depicted in the film though. But you have a high drug use and the sale of drugs. So, every gang is fighting for their street corners to sell on. Combined that with the media, public figures, and the community looking the other way you have a horrible area.

I wouldn't call Chicago a horrible area, it's in fact an amazing city. But just stay on the north and east side. There are many parts of the south and west side that seem like a different country

I'm sure their are nice parts but the movie is depicting the bad side of town. Yes its sensationalized but the bad parts of Chicago is a war zone especially on the weekends.

It's just like what Jim Croce sang in "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown":

"Well the south side of Chicago
Is the baddest part of town"
