This got robbed at Oscar time.

Roger Ebert even pointed out that one of the actresses in this film should have received an Oscar nomination instead of Holly Hunter getting nominated Twice: Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress.

I completely agree. France Nuyen, in particular, was incredible in her scenes. Vivian Wu was also excellent.

Ming Na Wen should have been nominated and probably should have won an Oscar.

I actually thought Ming Na's acting was the worst in the movie. The scene where her mother says that she sees her in particular, you can totally see that she's not crying at all.

Exactly. Since Hunter was already favored to win Best Actress for Piano, why nominate her for The Firm? I think it was Gene Siskel who wanted Tsi Chin to get a nod, if I recall correctly.

I was just coming in here to write this. One of the most grotesque injustices in Academy award history.

reply

Disagree. Nobody stood out in The Bad Luck Club. It was a poor film at best.
