Had to say it

I couldn't hold it in any longer. I thought this movie was great. It was sad and uplifting at the same time. I loved it! Just had to get that out there.

never hold a thing back like that about a movie like this. I agree with everything you said. This is one of the most underrated films ive seen. A great story that is incredibly sad and touching. Danny Devito is wonderful in this film.

Thanks man. I totally agree with you!

This is one of the best dramas I have seen. I think I saw it some 6-7 years ago and just couldn't stop crying. Grossly underrated.

I remember seeing it when I was a kid. Whenever it's on t.v. I watch it... A real good movie.

I watched this movie also when I was a kid, and it still has the same effect today

reply

Danny Devito deserved a academy award for this movie, and the kid who played the oldest son was phenomenal as well

***some spoilers****

I feel kinda bad saying it because of all the rave reviews on this board, but the only reason I'm on IMDB for Jack the Bear is because I just saw the last 30 minutes of it on TV and thought it was one of the worst films I'd seen in a looooong time. With a superior cast like it undoubtedly has I thought "gee, this should be great" but the acting was so tortured by every single cast member that I broke out laughing in all the dramatic parts. The script is completely ridiculous - you've got Death of a Spouse, Alcoholism, Kidnapping, Kid Is More an Adult than Parent is, Possible Molestation (though not actualized), Neo-Nazism, and Death By Snarling Rottweilers all in THE SAME FILM, plus the music just screams Made For TV Movie and---let's face it---the main kid really wasn't ready for a dramatic role ("I .... miss Mommy!" *sob sob*).

I love watching bad movies in a very Mystery Science Theater 3000 sort of way, so Jack the Bear really just made my day. I know I didn't see the whole thing, but even coming in toward the end I was able to predict the next move in every scene. I rate this just under MFTV "It" by Stephen King.

*ten minutes later*
I did a little reading on the Comments after I "reviewed" JTB and it seems the part I saw on the tee-vee is not appreciated by a number of viewers. I feel like I ought to rent this and give the whole movie a chance. I've NEVER seen a movie so positively reviewed on IMDB so I'm thinking that as the only 'thumbs-downer" I might have missed something. :)

maybe its just your personal belief, nothing wrong with that,i get bashed on the "Fast and the furious"board for saying that is the worst series of films ever to be put on film, i liked,if you didnt thats cool, sometimes people get their panties in a bind when someone dosent ride the same exact bandwagon as them, dont worry about it,if you didnt like it,you dont need to justify that to anyone

reply

Oh, I understand that. I still think the parts I saw were piss-poor and I DO thoroughly enjoy making fun of a bad flick, but I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt to all the people on this board who flat-out loved the movie. If I'm going to trash a film I really ought to watch the whole thing; I may still trash it afterward, but I will start at the start and keep my eyes glued till the credits. It's on my movie queue and I eagerly await.

I do have to say, the people commenting for this movie all appear to be really nice (reaper included). I've seen a LOT of inexcusable personal rips on other boards just because viewers have a difference of opinion, and I'm glad to see that civil discourse still exists (even on the Internets!).

Oh, and Fast and the Furious likely IS the worst series of films ever to be put on film. :)

I know this is many years later, but I'm dying to know if you watched the entire movie & if your opinion changed.

Thanks
