NC-17???
So, why is this rated NC-17? Sure, it's violent but there's very little blood. No more language than usual. Did the MPAA just see Traci Lords' name and just assume it would be NC-17 without really watching it?

shareThe MPAA were very harsh back then, and they still are from time to time. Even a film as seemingly benign as Godfather III had to lose some violence to get an R.
shareThis movie was wrongly rated! I think MPAA saw Traci Lords name, like the OP said, and rated!
Prostitute: What the *beep* are you doing?
Johnny: I'm gonna kill a bunch of people.

Looking for the UNCUT/Unrated version on DVD.
Heard that there is a NC-17 rated DVD, but can't find it for sale.
I believe the R-rated DVD is actually the uncut NC-17 version. The MPAA doesn't list an R rating for the film in its database, which means the distributor (illegally) self-applied it. Perhaps they just assumed it was R and didn't bother checking. By today's standards, it is.
shareIntent to Kill received the NC-17 because of excessive violence, foul language and adult situations (including some nudity). That so-called R version is really the NC-17 version.
shareAccording to the MPAA it was only because of violence. The film obviously would not receive that rating today.
