I origionally saw this film about ten years ago I really liked it then(even though I didn't get all the jokes) A few months ago I happened across it for sale in a video store, I couldn't help but buy it I took it home imeaditly and it took me back to a really great time in my life(there was tears, it wasn't pretty) I just watched it again tonight with a friend and againit took be back.
I hope that my introducing this movie to my friend now will at some point later in his life bring him joy as well
Thank you to every one who was involved in this modern masterpiece
I saw this movie on my buddy's free pay per view channels when I was in high school just fell in love with it. I can watch it over and over and never get tired of it. I don't know what it is about this movie, I just love it.
I agree also. I've seen this movie over 20 times and never get tired of it. I think for me it just hits so close to home. Childhood and camping was so much fun and to get to go back and re-live it just one more time would be awesome. By watching the movie I get all those good memories back. One of my all time all time fav's.
I'm one of those that has also watched it many times more than most films. About the only thing that comes to mind for a description of the effect of this film is, it's Valium for the soul, at least for me. When I've had a bad or long day and just want to wind down and be somewhere else, I put this in the PC along with a few other favorites and just go back to another time when I was one of the Shrekker's, or had a bad crush on the camp's "Ida". Fortunately, I never went as far as needing to use masking tape.. Actually, there are few films that I really think that could support some type of sequal, but how about a look back at camp now that it's been in the hands of Jack and Bethy for the last 10 years or so?. I suspect it would be too tempting to make it into another "Meatballs" though if the big studios got their hands on it. For those that get a bit of a "twing" out of this film regarding your adolescence, I'd recommend "Almost Famous" as a good followup to get a simliar type of look at the 70's through a teenager's eye's.
I love this film and always will. Its timeless and one of my all time favorites. Camping was always a part of my childhood. Mostly from family camping trips up North (Michigan-Canada), but also the ones from school (5th grade) and boyscouts.
Now as a 30-something, this film means more to me than ever before because I can relate to the real life problems that the caracters are caught up in, while wishing I could go back again to those same places with those same people today.
This movie reminds me of another favorite of mine, The Big Chill. Not that this is a bad film by any means. I love that Jack and Bethy, the two characters who so needed direction in their lives, take over the camp from Uncle Lou. I love the reconcilation between Jack and Lou -- because I totally understand the child Jack's anger: there's nothing worse than when your hero lets you down. And you know Lou wanted to smooth things over, because he invited Jack in the first place.
A terrific movie, even for someone that *never* went to camp as a kid. This movie made me wish otherwise.
