I'd have slept with Robert Redford for free

reply

oh how lovely of you to say so, im sure she'll enjoy your kind words

reply

Shut up, loser!

reply

I'm sure a lot of women would.

But here's the question: if Redford approached you and offered you *money* for the privilege, would you still do it or would you consider it prostitution?

The money changes the entire dynamic.

reply

It's prostitution, that's how I feel at least.
It's been a while since I saw this but basically Demi Moore and Woody Harrelson are in a happy relationship at the time of the transaction. I think that makes it worse and if I was in the same situation I wouldn't do it. Full disclosure, I wouldn't sleep with Redford for free either!

reply

They did have an excellent relationship, but they also had very serious financial issues.

But rereading my question, I see that I didn't ask it exactly the way I wanted it:

For those women who *would* sleep with Redford for free if the opportunity presented itself, how would these same women react if Redford offered the money *first*?

In other words, the women in question would sleep with Redford if the opportunity arose for free, but since they would want to sleep with him anyway, would the offer of money turn a hookup into something else?

reply

Ah ok I see, you worded it just fine.
I'd be interested to see that too.

How about you, If the roles were reversed of course?

Btw how is your brother doing?

reply

Wow, thanks for asking.

He's had his first chemo and he'll be getting them once every two weeks. They put a port in his chest to administer the chemo, and he has to wear some sort of small pump for a day or two after the chemo (don't know what that's about). No adverse reaction to his first treatment. We remain hopeful.

How about you, If the roles were reversed of course?

I agree that if one accepts money to have sex with someone who they wouldn't sleep with otherwise, that's a classic definition of prostitution, regardless of how they justify it.

I think that if a strange woman I would have ordinarily slept with (sounds so weird to say that; I've been married 33 years..) first offered me money, I know I wouldn't accept it, and I'm pretty sure I'd be in some way offended (or perhaps honored?). So yes, I would consider it an offer of money for sex.. IOW, prostitution even though I would have without the money.

reply

That's good, I hope the chemo continues to be as comfortable as is possible and that it achieves something positive for your family.

Thinking about this, and if one did accept the money despite being willing to do the deed for free, I feel a real problem would come along if the relationship continued beyond one night.

Pausing to ask if RR and DM did get together in the film? I think they did briefly but could be wrong.

There's part of me that thinks some women do compromise themselves for a comfortable lifestyle. As a woman I hate myself for observing it and in doing so judging them.
