Question for German-speaking / Frage für Deutschsprachige

In the beginning of the movie, when Raphaela (N.Kinski) is assisting a dying man (maybe a drug addict), we can hear a voice in the background, maybe the voice of the dying man himself. It can be heard in the original version (I own a DVD with both original and Italian-dubbed version). I could figure out only a few words and phrases, such as "Pappelzweige", "... und der Weg ist zu leicht", "... zwei Himmel" (it is quite possible that I have misunderstood the whole thing!). Does anybody know if this is taken from a poem or if it is part of the original script? And does anybody know the whole passage?

Thank you and forgive my poor English!

Raphaela's lines are taken from the Old Testament (Salomon, chapter 3). The lines of the man are original script. It is:

-----------------------------------
"Was ist, wie ich bin ? Jetzt. Vor dem Haus stehen Pappeln. Zwei. Zwei. Immer. Ein Tor. Komm, Weg.. Jetzt musst Du der einzige sein."

"What is like me/like I am. Now. There are poplars (poplar-trees ?) in front of the house. Two. And they form a gate. Someone has to pass through that gate. It must grow. And the path is so easy. It may be long. But in the end it will forgive every step you've taken. Otherwise, the poplars wouldn't be there. Two. Always. A Gate. Come, path. Now you must be the only one."
-----------------------------------

There is a RC1-DVD from Columbia that has english subtitles but they are not very accurate.

Thank you for your very detailed answer: it would have been a pity to lose such a poignant text!

I thought it was all talk about the Gate of Heaven, he was dieing from overdose or some disease and she was there to guide him through.

Lucky guy, I wish I could see Nastassja Kinsky as I die
