Utterly predictable

With a too old Clint, a too young Rene and the usual assemblage of characters and clichés. But I've just sat all the way through it and quite enjoyed it. Guess there's no accounting for taste.

I watched this film for the first time last night. It is somewhat predictable, still quite entertaining though if not a bit silly. The fact that Mitch was always able to somehow easily get Frank on the phone was kind of a funny theme in this film. Not sure this was intended... I mean, goodness, even when Frank is at a bar the guy just knows how to get in touch. :)

Very good movie though, it has a lot of gritty action scenes. It's an 8 out of 10 from me. But I mainly watched it to compare Malkovich's performance to Val Kilmer's Doc Holiday performance in Tombstone. I think Kilmer was robbed an Oscar for BSA or at least a nomination. That being said, Malkovich was quite good in this movie. In fact, very close race between the two of'em, although many of the scenes in LoF, Mitch is just talking on the phone, so it's hard to really give an overall assessment of it. I'd have to say Kilmer edged him out slightly because I think it was a tougher role to pull off.

Pretty soon I'm going to watch the eventual winner's performance which was Tommy Lee Jones in The Fugitive and compare that one too. Have you seen either film, Tombstone or The Fugitive?

reply

I've seen them both but a long time ago. As I remember I was a little disappointed by The Fugitive and but Tombstone was pretty good.

reply

Yeah but they made it work.

huwdj Clint's character was supposed to be "too old", that was the whole point of the character..... an over the hill SS agent trying to redeem himself before he retires(which he does at the end). I don't understand this complaint about him being too old for the role when his character is supposed to be old to begin with lol..... makes no sense.

To be honest, 8 months later, I can't remember the film. But I'm guessing I meant he looked far to old to be believable in the part. I'm a little surprised to realise when he did that film he must have been around 62/63? I thought he looked older than that.
