Penny the HR person

As played by Linda Emond in a very understated and cold performance.. what a cold you know what... her lines to Laura like "you know, the clothes" about the aerobics class and that line "Do you always smile at people that way" I wanted to reach through the screen and slap her!!! Like it was all Laura's fault.. I kinda thought that her character liked Richard herself!!!

reply

Man she was a piece of work!!! I wanted to slap her silly. She was so cold and matter of fact with Laura during the whole ordeal -- like it was all Laura's FAULT!! Don't you know Laura went on a date with him, smiled at him and encouraged it!!! But she sure did something when Richard threatened her. Idiot woman.

You hit the nail on the head. I kind of think Penny was a little jealous and maybe liked Richard herself, who knows... I mean Richard was respected, why listen to this recent college grad "upstart" in a mans world like Laura.. that is what she thought...

reply

Yes. It was pathetic that it took a personal threat against herself before more serious action was finally taken. Nevertheless, they sent him off gently with those neutral references, in order to placate him while protecting their own interests. Nowadays, their liability due to Laura's serious claim would be considered much greater.
