ten things learned from Stalking Laura...

1. Smiling at someone will result in them stalking you.

2. Laura didn't come to K.E.I. to play softball.

3. Even if you're stalker has the same workplace as you do, never trust the people in charge to help you.

4. When working out in public, don't wear "sexy" clothes.

5. Nothing compares to sandwich #26 from Togo's.

7. Making faces at your stalker can win you a toy.

8. When a business is under attack, it is probably not a good idea to just sit there till you get shot.

9. During a negotiation, there is still the famous problem of getting-a-sandwich- and-a-cola up to the suspect.

10. Laura is not getting a promotion without her clearance ticket.

Numbers 8 + 9 are generally the two that make sense when dealing with a stalker/suspect. The fact is that Richard Farley was a nut who probably would have snapped at someone else even if Laura Black had been nice to him which means he deserves to be in jail.

11. When your crazy stalker works in your building, it is a good idea to leave your security clearance application with all of your private info on top of the drawer where he can see it.

12. KEI's HR department sucks!

13. When an employee threatens to shoot himself and others, don't call the cops. It's fine to just let him go without prejudice and write good reviews to his new employers.

Your number 11 is something that drove me nuts while watching the movie, lol. My first thought was "why the he** who you leave your application in your unlocked drawer"!

I was frustrated too. However, that part happened earlier in Laura's employment, when Richard still had card-key access to her building's section. He'd taken a door key from the janitor to open her office, and the desk drawer actually WAS locked. After sniffing her lipstick print on a tissue from the trash can, at about timestamp 29:30, Richard has to pry open that drawer to gain access.

Personally, I would've carried that info-sensitive form with me or kept it locked up at home or in a safe/safety deposit box, but Laura was naive enough (at 22) to think her section, office, and desk drawer would be untouchable - especially before "identity theft" was a common concern and security cams commonplace. There was likely an added false sense of security with other people around during the day. Shortly after that creepy scene, HR disables Richard's card access to her section. Too little, too late.

The filmmakers very carefully followed the true story, based on the recorded facts, trial testimony and evidence - right down to names and places. I can respect this type of narrative movie, especially during a time when it seems only documentaries portray the facts without numerous Hollywood indulgences.
