Deeper meaning

Although this movie centers on the stalking of Laura Black, there is a much broader meaning to it. It shows you what happens when you have a large company, run by incompetents, who don't give a crap about their employees. Laura was completely dismissed, ignored, and silenced when she voiced her concerns about Richard. The company's only concern was their precious image. They didn't care enough about one of their own employees to make sure she was safe. And their clumsy, half-assed attempt to remedy the situation, through a program known as "project concern," was just comical and ridiculous. It really only provoked Richard's wrath even further.

As for richard, he was mentally ill. However, when he was in the bar talking to some colleagues about getting fired from the company after years of dedicated service, it suggested that KEI has a reputation for firing people for bs reasons.Even his friends were contemplating revenge on the company. None of them would probably go through with their plans, as most mentally sane people wouldn't. But you never know whether your going to get an employee like Richard, who just might!

I personally have worked in many jobs where the bosses are a-holes, and the pay is lousy, and the working conditions make it clear that nobody gives a flying F-----. When human beings are subjected to this kind of treatment on a regular basis, it breeds extreme resentment. Thankfully, i have never experienced a workplace shooting, but i have seen workers deliberately bad-mouth the company to others, and refuse to go above and beyond in their work. They do the bare minimum, and go home.

Farley's attack on KEI was inevitable. You can only get away with bs for so long, before Karma bites you in the ass.

Still it didn't give him the right to kill innocent co-workers. Resentment of the job is one thing, but taking people's lives because of it is insanity. Notice how in the movie he didn't kill the ones who fired him.
