None, that revolution, to my eyes, was a failure. Instead of a Mussolini kind of Chile, you might have ended bith a USSR kind of Chile. Why? Because that's the way both character behaved. Am I not right about Pinochet? Am I right about Allende? Guess we'll never know.

I'll read Isabel Allende, though. I'll read her till I die.

Though I think Allendes intentions were good, I think he made things worst by bringing Castro over to Chile. Pinochet well I hate what that man did during the dictadorship, so I will never side with him.

reply

Allende's intentions were the best, he just didn't manage to get a hold of all the problems, and it got out of hand, so Pinochet and the rest of his crew so this as an oportunity to take the lead, and have tons of people support. But true to his nature, he took what could've been a good change (in theory, since the improvement in chile's economy is a fact), and turned it into a blood bath, power greed and disgrace... I'm ashamed of people who still think what he did was right... I just feel that it wasn't justified.

I just wish him good luck down there dancing in the flames :P lol

Allende was a president elected trough a democratic process, regardless of his ideology, he was legally the president of Chile.

Pinochet is a traitor, assasin and dictator.

Your question is really dumb, pardon me saying so.

If we were to kill every president in the world with socialist ideas, there would be assasinations in many countries, including France, Spain, Venezuela and Bolivia.

reply

Allende had good intentions but he really mess up by bringing Castro over to Chile. Pinochet was a MURDERER and I would never take sides with such a Swine, I don't care if he helped Chile's economy recover. No amount of money can bring back those lives.

reply

I liked the question. I am not an expert, but I would have to pick Allende. At least based on the little I know, his government was not rounding up and killing people, right? Of course this is me having to choose one or the other. I would really prefer neither. :)

reply

Got to go with Pinochet. Lesser of two evils if you will.

I'm from Chile, I was 10 when the military coup; I never left the country, and let me remind you this film is based from a fictitious novel with fictitious characters, It has nothing to do and it fails to represent not even close the reality and the spirit of this country nor the Chilean Armed Forces (probably never Intended to); may be this is Chile or other country in a parallel universe. Sadly you'll never know the true of what happened in those years. I recommend to all of you to discuss about the movie itself and stop talking about things you don't know.

Chilean economy went down during Allende because of sanctions imposed by America to that country, just because Allende was a socialist.

reply

An idiot with good intentions or an evil realist. I pick neither.

Marxism is such a non-descriptive term in this day and age. Allende was, for all intents and purposes, a socialist democrat. There is nothing wrong with that, most of Europe is run by socialist democracies (simplified), today. The big dichotomy you present, OP, is non existent.
