Depressed and angry the entire time...

Fantastic drama indeed, but damn when it was over, I felt like I was put in a hurt locker for 2 1/2 hours. The anger shifts character to character, mostly focused on Esteban, but in the end, the government, stepbrother etc.

Beautiful film, great acting, but leaves such a lousy feeling once viewed. Anyone agree?

I love this movie but many people hated b/c it is vastly different from the book. I still love the book more but the movie was great IMO.

Obviously, I need to read the book, for as much as I am a fan of the principle actors involved and I did see it when it was first released, I couldn't get through it when it recently ran on cable.

I think it was a low period for the performers,(even Streep has commented that 1989-1994 was a slow time in her career as far as good scripts were concerned), for it seems comical today with the actors trying to compensate for the lame dialogue with over the top histrionics.

Watch the film, For Your Consideration, paying close attention to Catherine O' Hara's portrayal of the dying mother, then watch this film and you'll see what I mean.

cool, thanks for your inputs

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I love this movie and even though the book will always be the better choice I still think the movie succeeded in getting the main point across.

I just watched this film and I agree with you... mostly. I don't think this is a beautiful film and I thought Jeremy Irons acting was terrible. It was like a caricature of a tyrant. I feel like I need a bath!
