I loved 'The Hour of the Pig' -or- 'The Advocate' (as it is known in the US). It reminded me of other films set in the Middle Ages such as:
'The Name of the Rose'
'Queen Margot'
'The Devils'
'The Return of Martin Guerre'
Can anyone recommend similar films set in or around the Middle Ages?
'Flesh + Blood,' a 1985 effort by Paul Verhoeven, is well worth a viewing. It (like 'Hour of the Pig') has a solid cast, including Rutger Hauer, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Brion James, Ronald Lacey, and even Bart Simpson (Nancy Cartwright).

I can recommend 'Cadfael', a 1990s series starring Derek Jacobi as a medieval monk who solves crimes.
