Wonderful film

I really can't believe that no one else has commented on this film before me. I just saw it this week for the first time and was thoroughly entranced by it. I have already seen it a second time and feel that somehow this film was totally overlooked by the public. How can that be? It was an HBO film and I have never had the channel due to children in the family and HBO's sometimes inappropriate programming. But a film like this should have been released to the general public, if a message was to be conveyed. It is about something that affects us even today. I feel somewhat disgusted with myself for never trying on my own to find out more about what actually happened to the hostages in Beirut. I do realize that this is only a film. However, it must have been documented and researched in order to be a credible film. I have a good friend to thank for getting this film to me and now I hope to find more info on this. I don't suppose that I alone could affect a change in how we think about things such as this, but given the state of our nation at this moment, perhaps we could have learned from this event and prevented what we are going through now. At least I would hope so.

I agree w/ butterfly4me that this is indeed an overlooked film. The odd thing is that I too watched it for the first time recently (when it was aired on Thrillermax), and I have not been able to let it go!! I am so impressed with the way they were able to show both sides in a seemingly fair manner. This really is a must see - it has given me a whole new perspective on the hostages in Iraq as well as the hostages depicted in the movie. I would highly recommend this movie to high school and college students - what a wonderful movie for starting discussions!!
