The Sanderson Sisters

Those actresses who played the Sanderson Sisters did a good job.

Indeed — the performances they gave were brilliantly kooky and funny. They’re a major reason why this movie has become what it is.

The kids were also great.

You know, most movies seem to have a miscast in them. I can't find any in this movie. Granted it's not Citizen Kane, but every performance was enjoyable. I even love the scene with Gary Marshall.

"Those actresses" were Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Nijamy.

reply

They did a good job just like Margaret Hamilton, the actress who played a witch in The Wizard of Oz did.

I'm a big fan of this movie and thought the actresses did a great job, but what Margaret Hamilton achieved in 1939 is legendary.

In an age where kids today laugh at what we used to consider "horror" films, Hamilton's WW/W still is one of the most chillingly frightening characters ever filmed.

Bette Midler (who played Winifred, the red-haired witch) said it was her favorite acting role. She even put up with the pain from the harnesses they used to make her and her co-stars look like they were flying on broomsticks.
