Dete drove me nuts!!!!!!!! Who agrees??

All that woman cared about was money. I don't like to cuss or swear online, so I'm not going to type the word out that she is, but I'm sure you know what I mean. She was that word. I couldnt stand her one bit.
Then there's the Jane Seymour character. She also drove me nuts too.

I agree with you on both.
Clara drove me crazy aswell.
I thought she was so mean to Heidi.
No wonder why she didn't have any friends. Lol.

Well, I don't think Clara couldn't help the way she was. Back in that day, they never had the kind of physical rehabilitation we have now. So if you were injured and crippled, there was pretty much no hope. I don't think she meant to be mean to Heidi. She just wanted a friend and was very lonely. I think the Jane Seymour character isolated her way too much, which sometimes happened in that day too. But Thank God times have changed and our people think differently when it comes to the people who have been injured. Thank God we have better medical knowledge that can give hope to many who have been physically crippled. But yes, Clara was controlling, but it was because she was very lonely and wanted a friend her age.
But there was a difference between the Jane Seymour character and Dete. Dete only cared about money and manipulated to get what she wanted. The Jane Seymour character was just strict and very high maintenance and always had to have things her way and perfect when Clara father came home.
But the actor that played Heidi was a perfect match for the part. Not only was she adorable, but she did her part really well.
For anyone who has not seen the Heidi movie Courage Mountain about Heidi when she's a teenager, I suggest you see it. I'd think that any video store would have it and I know for a fact that netflix also has it. It's really good. Charlie Sheen is in it and his good looks and cute voice just make it better.

I don't mean Clara's condition.
Just how she treated Heidi.
How Clara said she was NEVER allowed to go home and to come back after a month of going back to the mountains.
That's what I meant.
She could still be friends with her if Heidi lived up there. They could've visited eachother or in school holidays.
Jane Seymour always could've got someone to live with them.

Dete is exactly how I imagined her to be, so no surprises there...I do think that she cared about Heidi in her own way, but was also quite materialistic.

As for Clara, the portrayal in the books is even more sympathetic to her (she does not appear to be as prone to temper tantrums), but in the film she redeemed herself in the end, as she realized that she was being selfish and did not make Heidi feel guilty about her decision to stay in the mountains.

I would say that all of the major characters (with the exception of Heidi) were a bit brusque and self-centred on a number of occasions (especially Peter and Alp-Öhi). I feel that a compromise solution should have been found in the end - a 50/50 scenario with Heidi spending some time in Frankfurt (so that she is able to receive formal schooling) and a number of months with her grandfather.

All in all, a very charming movie and all of the actors put in strong performances.

The fact you take the characters so seriously shows they're good actors :-)

She was the 1880's version of bitch.

So, a thought crossed your mind? Must have been a long and lonely journey

that was the point of the character. she had to be that way to show how vain and greedy she was compared to her saintly sister and how she had got above her station
