Heidi + Peter (in case anyone's wondering)

I always noticed that this version shows a lot of Heidi and Peter (including Peter's reaction to her leaving). As a child I always imagined them getting married someday. Several years after seeing this movie I found an old copy of the book Heidi Grows Up by the same author as the original book. Book Spoiler alert, but in case anyone wanted to know, Heidi goes to school, is a teacher for a while, but in the end decides to marry Peter and live on the mountains with him, grandfather, and the goats. Isn't that nice.

oh yes, I've seen that second story on TV though I don't remember its name(what a pity!). they were during a war and Heidi was in a girl's school on the Alps. They had to escape there and reach home, so Heidi was leading the other little girls and they managed to reach home. Peter's an officer and I don't remember the rest of the story any more.

does what I wrote ring a bell to anyone?

Ha ha ha ha! Actually I was talking about a book but I've seen the movie you're talking about. It's called Courage Mountain and has Charlie Sheen miscast as Peter. I rented it out of curiostiy last month :-)

I have read that book, too but it wasn't by the same author. I just found out it was by a guy named Charles Tritten, he was Johanna Spyri's translator and had translated "Heidi" and all her other works.

Yes, one can easily imagine Peter and Heidi hooking up later. It is easy to see he liked her from the start.

Did anyone besides me think it was kind of romantic how he chased after the train in this particular movie version when Heidi was on the train to Frankfurt and they were waving goodbye to each other?

reply

I did find that out actually. I found my copy of the book, which is about 50 years old, and it only credits the book to "Spyri's translator" but doesn't give his name.

The train scene was sweet I agree

The movie about Heidi and Peter when they are much older is called Courage Mountain and it's a really good movie. Charlie Sheen just made it better. But during the movie, like when Peter has to rescue Heidi and her friends there are signs of romance between them. For anyone who has seen this film, you all probably remember the cave scene when they're all sitting by the campfire. Then at the end, after Heidi had gotten home safe, she got all dressed up nice for Peter and I guess she kinda freaked him out because he left. He was a soldier in the war and she followed him and they kissed. Whoever played Heidi sure is lucky because Charlie Sheen is cute, even in his 40's

There is also a third book called Heidi's children, which I highly recommend people read as also a good read.

Oh good! I love that. I always hoped that Peter and Heidi would end up together.

"Heidi Grows Up" was NOT written by Johanna Spyri, but by her English translator Charles Tritten, and wasn't in any way approved nor endorsed by her (she had died many years before).
EDIT: The same goes for "Heidi's Children"

it was always obvious they were going to get married. haven't managed to get a copy of the sequel but have got a copy of the next book, with her children, it's a good one with a mystery and alm uncles background
