The Movie Vs The Series

Ok, Now I grew up watching the series and am 28 and finally got to see the original movie.
Whilst I liked it, I liked it on a totally different level to the series which I fell in love with as a teen.
But is the series completely seperate from the movie.
There are some major differences, for one it's setting in the movie was Melbourne and in the series it was in Sydney.
The second is Nick's Dad has more of an accent in the movie.
Also Doris Younane, whom in my opinion really brings great life to the series plays a completely different character in the Heartbreak Kid.
So back to my original question, is the movie totally unrelated to 'Heartbreak High'?

It was born out of the movie but not technically a sequel as such. Sort of an 'inspired by' thing. I think originally it was meant to follow on but then decided to have it as a separate thing, mostly because Nick would have technically left school by the time the show began as he was 17 in the movie etc etc.

I've watched both. But I enjoyed the tv series better.

As I saw the movie first (and really loved it) I have to confess the biggest disappointment of the show was that they never completed the Nick and Christina story arc. They simply gave it up so the promise at the end of the movie (we meet here again two years later) wasn't kept. Instead they let Nick die. It would have been great when he would have met Christina Papadopoulos again. Just my two cents...

How does Nick die? I didn't see it in the series.
