It's a shame...

That, while he maybe very proud of this, that GG is only known for his stage antics, which is very easy for people to dismiss his music. I agree, a lot of it was poorly produced junk, but he did write some very good, very catchy songs (I.E Drink, Fight, and *beep* Bite It You Scum, Die When You Die, etc.)

Not only were they good songs, but they also captured the anger and disdain of GG, nearly perfectly.

I don't know where I'm going with this, just wondering if anyone else felt the same way.

I agree to a certain degree. I've linked people videos of GG Allin and they generally like the songs but you are right that it's the shock value that keeps them interested.

my favorite gg allin song is "When I Die".

It takes a while, but after researching and watching his films you'll eventually realize that G.G. Allin was a good man and was only expressing himself on stage and through his music, and was really just being himself while trying to show everyone that even a scumbag like him was just as human as the rest of us. G.G. destroyed punk music because in terms of nihilism it really needed a re-imageing, and from what I've gathered he really didn't do much in terms of harming anybody except for causing a few broken bones and just disgusing people in general. It's been stated at least a couple times by G.G. and others that if he didn't do what he did then he'd probably be killing people in real life or doing God knows what else, so in my mind eating his own feces and punching people in the face at concerts was the less of two evils (if you want to call it that). G.G. may have been disturbed, but deep down beneath all that human waste and violence he had a beautiful soul.

"Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone."

This guy was trash and nothing else. Good person? Get bent! He was twisted in every sense of the word and had no redeeming qualities. The most ridiculous part of all this is why? Why did he act like such a pile of *beep* He wasn't abused in the traditional sense? His parents were odd, but not cruel. Pathetic. A lonely, gross miscreant.
Worst of all, he had not the good sense to make any money from his "creations." Dumb. Good riddance to scumbag, bad rubbish.

You're one of the reasons why G.G. made music in the first place.

"Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone."

reply

Go eat R. Budd Dwyer's lunch.

Do I want to enslave the human race? A little.

reply

why? he was mentally disturbed, there's no definitive answer and if you settle for assumptions and think not profiting from his antics is his biggest lapse of bad judgement you're not a very good person either

reply

yep, a lot of people don't even bother checking out his songs when they hear he's a guy that eats poop. The song "dogsh**" has lyrics I could picture people relating to if GG wasn't so stigmatized.

im a fan of dirty folk, and id love a compilation of all his acoustic songs. the heavy stuff is okay, but his acoustic work is nothing short of moving.
