Williams III, Wright and Hudson were great

Other characters such as Snipes' and Vigoda's were good but these three were amazing. I was really surprised how low of a viewing rating this movie got. Williams was Oscar-worthy, Wright was very dark and haunting, as was Hudson. Check this film out if you enjoy drug dealing gangster dramas.

Clarence Williams drew on some Lon Chaney-like suffering when he did his very physical and convincing overdose death. It so reminded me of Lon Chaney (Senior) when Chaney kneeled on the circular wooden rack as the Hunchback of Notre Dame back in 1923, it was that heavily choreographed. He dropped to his knees and his eyes rolled back while he sweated pints of perspiration all over his face, I mean, I mean, I mean..... heh heh heh. That was pretty intense. And Abe Vigoda was the spitting image of a Vincent "Chin" Gigante old godfather, sans his bathrobe (without it). He was totally convincing, especially when confronted with Michael Wright who captured his character perfectly. His explosive murderous temper was riveting to watch when the Africans called him a "cotton-picker" in Swahili. Not to mention Wesley Snipes, just an amazing debonair man, caught up in the realities of a racist world that would reduce his chances for success a thousandfold.
Were he white, he'd be the James Bond of cool white guys, but being black makes him just another *beep* I hate racism so much. And to watch people attack Michael Jackson and Obama this week has made me sick. Racism is as blatant as ever. Just turn on the Fox network and watch it subtly have its black neocon commentators play the obligatory "put a black guy out there" practice and sew its insidious seeds of hatred and jealousy. So many Americans want Obama to fail, even though it would go against their own futures. That's the remarkable thing. They vote against their own self interests just because they would hate to see the Democrats succeed like they did when Clinton balanced the budget and made life much easier for Americans without the wasteful spending and the war deaths and huge monetary expense that in the end makes life worse, not better for our safety and prosperity.
It defies belief that would prefer life after Bush to the lives we led under Clinton after he had balanced our budget and made an atmosphere of potential with good opportunities in the business world due to the lack of wasteful spending that Bush was so criminally liable for during his reckless 8 years of lies that drained our coffers and threatened to alter and destroy (like Gordon Gekko), the Social Security retirement Benefits System that we must guard with our lives against the attacks of the Republicans that would much prefer to ring its death knoll, despite the disastrous lack of a chance for a retirement for millions of Americans who don't command the salaries of those talk show hosts that would have you give your money up since it's of zero consequence to them, they're so wealthy. Life after your 60's with no social security check is a frightening prospect. That check is a life or death necessity for many. To deny it is cruelty incarnate.

^^^^^^WTF at that political rant out of left field? lol You realize no one is gonna read all that right? Put that in a message board or discussion group that might actually respond to it. Common sense dude.

Back to the subject at hand...

Completely agree on Williams III. That is one hidden gem of a performance. He was beyond incredible. His monologue as he's preparing to shoot up is powerful as all hell. Very underrated actor overall.

I must disagree on Wright as Ray though. His acting was weak and it created some awkward moments. He just didn't have the range to pull off all the facets to the character properly. But at times he went so over the top it had a campy quality to it that made his performance enjoyable. He was definitely memorable, I'll give him that.

And Ernie Hudson was fun to watch as always. Love that guy.

Williams was AMAZING. I loved Wright's acting when he gives his speech about he was scared of Vigoda's character. I thought the whole cast was great but CW3, Snipes, Hudson, Wright & Vigoda stood out the most to me with their performances. I also thought this was the best I had seen Theresa Randle as well. Such an underrated film.
