how close to the stage?
How close is this adaption to the stage show? Are there many differences?

As far as I know their are virtually no changes. It was said at the time that they wanted to preserve the stage version.

It was part of Laurents/Sondheim's terms. They didn't like the changes to the 1962 film and the only way they'd allow this film to be made is if it was done 100% faithful.
