I'm gonnna hope for the best on this one, he's the blockbuster kind of guy, which means everyone sees his stuff, then dogs it afterwards.

Kate Beckinsale would be perfect! reference her looks in Underworld

I have not seen this film yet but its sounds good, + if JC is directing the film then it cant be bad. Remember this is the man who brought us Aliens, then again he also mad titanic :(

Also not al live action anime films are bad, ichi the killer or azumi.

He's said (James Cameron) that his next film will be a big-budget sci-fi all digital film 3d flick distributed by FOX - sounds like Alita to me.

What evidence is there that he's making this, other than one persons word and a James Cameron quote that he's making a big budget Sci-Fi film (not sure how that suggests Alita).

It would be crap anyway, all live action films based on anime are.

How about some quotes from Cameron himself? From an interview in the British movie magazine Hot Dog:

"Battle Angel is a very real possibility, and that's the film that I fully intend to direct, that I will direct. The issue is will it be the next film, or will it be the one after the next film? That's really all there is to it at this point. We've done a tremendous amount of design for the film, we're fine-tuning the script, it's just a matter of time."

And later in the same interview

"Motorball might find its way more into the second film. I definitely want to do more than one film. I want to create a world and a character that can go through at least one more film, possibly more. And that's not just for the classic financial reasons, it's just that I think there's a possibility for a real mythology here, so I feel that this is a good canvas to do something big that's got more scope."

And as far as all live action films based on anime being crap, Cameron's interviews suggest he is basing his film not the anime, but on the original manga, which goes into much more depth than the video. Films like Uzumaki, Ichi the Killer, and Tomie were adapted from manga, and they were at least decent films.

You can't really take Kate Beckinsdale for Alita- Alita is only a teenager- well, her body is, anyway... ;)

and how many movies have you seen 20 somethings play teenagers?

Hmmm... "an adaptation on the level of Blade?" That's like saying you hope Peter Jackson's LOTR is an adaptation on the level of the Dungeons and Dragons movie. Nothing against Blade, but Battle Angel Alita, the Manga, is at least as great an accomplishment as Cameron's entire body of work to date. His adaptation of it had better be his masterpiece.

I agree completely about the quality of the Alita manga, just brilliant. The artwork and the story are both incredible, I started reading it when I worked at a comic shop about 12 years ago or so (yeah, I'm such a comic dork).

I have a friend in Japan who is close to the movie and entertainment biz. He says Cameron has been making trips to Japan to oversee a project (Sony perhaps)to develop a new high-tech camera just for...Gunm AKA Battle Angle Alita.

I for one would love to see it and since Dark Angel is essential an 'Alita knock-off (Jessica Alba looks so much like Alita it's scary) the chances are good.

a recent news article seems to point to alita live-action being in limbo, at best:
