Don Johnson: A , Movie: D

IMO this is by far Don Johnson's best performance. Also loved his Norman Bates impression in the "sandwich" scene. For about 80 minutes this flick seemed like a sure classic but the last 30 minutes, oh well...What began as a smart psycho thriller in the vein of "Primal Fear" or "Basic Instinct" turned into a mindless slasher with the previously cool as ice mastermind villain losing all his wits and temper, resorting to brute force, the final fight scene with De Mornay and her awful acting being the nadir. Did the producers change the original ending due to poor screenings or was it all Larry Cohen's fault?

Not sure how intelligent Johnson´s final move ultimately was, but he certainly didn´t lose his temper at any point. Also, I find Basic Instinct a remarkably dumb movie that´s only semi-saved by Verhoeven´s direction and Sharon Stone´s crotch.
