Is the movie about reincarnation?

Phil has to live the same day over and over again until he achieves the perfect day. This is similar to the concept of reincarnation wherein one lives multiple lives until he or she works off all their karma and achieves a state of perfection.

Phil is the little known 11th incarnation of Vishnu. Incidentally, the groundhog was Rama reincarnated.

reply

Yea.
It’s so obvious, this film is about Buddhism with a romance twist.
Christians would be surprised how much they like this film and how much they’d agree with the buddah if it wasn’t so covered up.

No. Reincarnation is the concept of living multiple lives without taking the knowledge of the previous life (or in Phil's case - the day) with him or her into the next life.

It's about getting stuck in a rut in life -- going 'round and 'round the mountain, so to speak -- and desperately trying to find the way OUT.

reply

No, it has more Christian themes. Redemption, forgiveness, humility. Phil ultimately finds his own happiness and peace in bringing joy to others.
"Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves." Philippians 2:3
