Other things no one has mentioned yet...

I've seen mentioned here about how could the piano teacher know him at the dance when he may not have had time to see her on that day before then.

Even if he did manage to show up at her place, what exactly could he have done to have her be impressed with him that night?
If he played like he did at the dance at her place, she would be like, "Um, you are good enough. You really don't need me after all."
So did he somehow fake it and make her think that she was teaching him and he learned real quick right there?
Why should she be proud of him like that?

Something I have not seen mentioned is how he left an impression on Doris the waitress played by Robin Duke.
She knows him and wants him at the bachelor auction.
Was she just impressed with his piano skills or what could he have done at the diner that day and so quick for her to want him like that?

Ppl have mentioned her comment a lot, and I think they take it too serious and literal, I think she said "He's my student" very tongue in cheek, just as a way of saying what a GOOD piano teacher she was.

And yeah I'd say after about the 100th or so day with her, he probably just acted as though he picked thing up SUPER fast. BUT who knows, perhaps on some of his later visits with her, he could have told her that he had had piano lessons in the past and just wanted to pick it back up. He could have told her that he already knew the basics. So she could have know he was already experienced.
