No, I won't. It is a sound decision. Increasingly the message boards have become populated with trolls who just like to stir things up and are not interested in adult give-N-take discussion. Plus many are posting a link to their reviews. Plus many are coming to the boards to advertise things like "free" download sites. These boards have been irreversibly spoiled by the few bad apples and shutting it down is the only solution.

well you are going to have to shutdown the whole goddamn internet then. Trolls, self-promoters, and angry political shills are all over - I hate it too but I ignore the bad and pay attention to the good and there is still plenty of that here. I'm amazed at how much good discussion there is to tell you the truth.

My guess is that you and I are at different places in our lives. My kids are grown, my wife and I are retired, we get involved in some community service activities and spend our leisure time at tennis and/or golf and other activities during the day. We watch a favorite TV program or a good movie at night. Two years ago I cancelled my FB account, and now I stay away from all social media. I don't need it and I think it is more wasteful that anything else. It allows people to be distracted from more difficult but productive activities.

So not being able to visit the IMDb message boards anymore will be very small potatoes for me. For others it might be traumatic.

Yet here you are.

reply

yes he is! And I see him on here quite a bit. No offense to Mike but it sounds a bit like 'good riddance with you, I didn't really like you anyway', after you get dumped. Plus you are sort of implying the rest of us have no life just because we mourn the loss of this place that you seem to frequent as much as anyone else - that doesn't add up.

reply

Truer words were never spoken.

reply

Just about the same situation for me Mike. I'm retired and the wife will be in three more years.

We both have FaceBook accounts but most of it is ridiculously political or narcissistic in nature, so I check on it once every few days.

But I admit that I do enjoy the discussion boards and will miss them, and I'll miss certain posters who often posted funny, snarky, or insightful comments about movies, and yes, that includes TxMike!!!

I think IMDB will lose a LOT of members when this happens, what else is there really to DO here?

I mean they could just enforce stricter rules, there is software to prevent such things.

I like posting on the boards too, but that doesn't mean it's going to be all that impactful if I can't.

reply

And? I still have meaningful discussions on here on plenty of boards. That hasn't changed. Trolls are a part of the internet.

reply

Whaaat? That's terrible!

I've been using these boards for more than a decade. It would be foolish to get rid of them for the sake of social media, which, ironically, are far more likely to incite trolling and unpleasantries than forums.

reply

And there's no way social media can be a destination to talk about older or lesser-known films immediately after someone sees them on video for the first time.

Contact Amazon’s CEO Jeff Bezos ([email protected]) (owner of IMDB) and demand that the IMDB Message Boards remain open, or you will never buy from amazon.com again, and won't visit IMDB again. If you don't visit IMDB anymore, you won't see its advertising.

IMDB got rid of the Daily Poll, similarly directing everyone to Facebook, which most ignored. The Daily Poll was brought back to the front page after angry members continued to demand it for a few years.

Please boycott amazon.com and IMDB after Feb 20, 2017.

A substitute for the IMDB Message Boards – they are now trying to be able to duplicate the IMDB message boards, allowing discussion for individual films:

Forums are here:

How to find discussion of individual films. (They don't have this yet for TV):

Another substitute for the IMDB Message Boards:
Someone picked this up on the Classic Film Board:

Its creator calls it a clone of IMDB message boards.

Another movie/TV discussion site, created in 2015 to block trolls:

Someone else suggested to “create an account on
www.movieforums.com
It's like IMDb, but less big. Same purpose though!”
I looked at it, and it didn't seem to have a useful Search function.
