Heisei series? Remakes?

The batch of new Godzilla and other giant monster movies from Japan are known as Heisei series movies, I think. Are they making a conscious effort to use only techniques and technology from the time of the original movies? I can't see the wires any more but all the rest of the cheesy stuff from the 60s are still there. I'm not complaining, I like them. They're also on constant rotation on US cable.
