"God's Lonely Man"

"What do you think of this movie?"

This is the guy that wrote and directed it. I'm very interested in: A- What people think. B- How it made you feel (if at all). C- If you bought the DVD-or-Video, if you plan on doing so and why or why not?

It's been a long, hard road getting this movie seen, it was at Sundance, and that really was a wonderful help, but actualy geting it in theaters and then onto DVD was an uphill battle. I'm not complaning, rather trying to explane why I'm doing this: This movie is very, very close to me and my backround; one of the reasons that I made it was to try to give some people the same experience that I had when I have seen pictures that feel like they mite have been made about me. Ya know? Well, maybe you don't... I don't really know. I guess all I'm trying to do here is find out if I was sucsessful in making people feel the way I once felt, with this movie. I supose it's that simple.

Well, if you saw GOD'S LONELY MAN, loved it, hated it with a passion or it just felt like re-hashed TAXIE DRIVER/HARDCORE and nothing else-- let me know, or, if you wish, we can talk about it.

Thank You!!

answers:
A-I can only say my personal opinion because I am the only one of my so called friends that seen this movie. And I just I felt very pleased an lucky for have the chance to see it, because I live in Brazil (this is a jungle, man), and I live in a city that is a turistic beach but didn't have too much os culture.
B-Well, I'm thinking in how I'm gona to answer that about a week ago, becouse I can't almost always put in paper or in word's "what I felt or whow I feel".So after a process of "think and erase" because I don't think it would express really what I felt, I dicide try to remenber and tell how I feel right in the moment that I see the movie and just that, not some critic that is very sculptured and structuralized but because of that (all moldation) lost the pureness.when I see the tape in the rentvideo, i became curios and happy thinking , this must be an independent movie(I liked those very much). Then when I read his synopsis I rent it.At that times I was trying to stop of rent movies because my life is such a waste, and because I became to felt prety bad headaecs, and lost of the recent memory and dificulty of concentration when I see movies (what I do very often since I have 9 y old). But I fail on that and rent the movie, in the first 1/3 of the movie I really indentified my self whith Ernest, mi life is really like his was,I got depression, I liked of girls who before of I try to express to then mine apreciation I think they are cool and diferent of the other bitches who just *beep* idiot guys ,but until now I always get they "*beep* of", since a have (maybe) 16 or 17 I think "why I can't score?" "why it looks like just guys who are rich , beauty or humiliated the others get the admiration of the girls and friends?" "when I gonna feel complish?" and in majority question of philosophy.I'd liked of your description of the of Ernest tought's, an his monologues , it was really accurate.(I just don't use drug's).Some times like him , I think in do something to stop the muthafucker's of *beep* the other people, but I'm an coward and not very wise so I generally give up.Ending this because it's getting to big , the thing I liked most in the film , that I think it really portray an resume my condition is that felling that no matter what I do I always get in the same place , an no matter how much happy(=no sad) I think Iam an or how full of hope can some situation make me fell it's always turn back the same *beep*.I think the last monologue in front of the mirror (after the hole odissey he pass)when he expres that he still feel lonely.I think that so truth , and the thing i like and identified most whith my life.I really get scared(is not that word) whith the similaritys that Ernest and Kurt Cobain both got.
C-I don't have a Dvd player, but if got im shure i'm gonna buy it, despite it will be dificult to find here on my country an specially in my town (balneario Camboriu) state (santa catarina).I really don't have too much experience in buy on internet.

Now I wanna know 2 thing's:
-You wanna know if you been sucesfull making people feel like you when you see some films rite, well I'm curios, how did you wanna people feel ?
-"I have seen pictures that feel like they mite have been made about me" , if you don't mind I would like to know what films are those?
------------------------------------------------------------------
I just compare whith Taxe Driver , after seet, when I see a sinopsys here in the imdb.Don't think it's just a re-filmation (I don't really know what is rehashed is) if is that what you wanna know.Think taxie Driver is not that god as the people rate, i've get bored in the most of the scenes, I just liked very much of the monologues of Deniro , and his mental strugle to get it back, just like Ernest. And Just like my.

P.S. very funny that scene when the transvesti says "looking good Ernest" , in the front os the father's girl he wanna make love (the girl of the porno estore) just before getting fired. And when he pointing to Steve's chemise to Polo's Sport logomark (relating the situation with Polo the childlover)

I thought your film was FANTASTIC! Michael Wyle's performance blew me away. The screenplay was tight, the cinematography excellent, the sound design very effective. I just went on-line and purchased the DVD. What are you working on now?

I was really impressed with this movie. I watched this movie about 10 years ago and at the time I was extremely impressed. It made me 'feel' which most movies don't and at the same time it made me think. It made me question some of my, and other peoples, morals. I watch A LOT of movies, and over the years I have found that most of them are hard to remember after a few years. I remember wether I liked them or not, but usually forgot the plot, characters, ending etc. But not the really good ones. This is one of the movies that I will never forget. The very next person I spoke to after watching this movie I recommended it to them. I raved about it and said they have to watch it. This is something I usually never do, as I realise that everyone's taste is different, but I thought that evreyone can get something from this movie as long as they watch it with an open mind. Even if it provokes an extreme distaste (which I think it might to some people) at least it provokes something, which most of the popcorn movies these days don,t. For a film to cause any strong emotion, positive or negative, is a sign of a quality picture that is worth 2 hours of anyone's time. I am really disappointed that there have only been 86 votes on IMDB in 10 years, and this I do not understand. I understand the relatively low score, as it may be too confrontational for a lot of people to score it well, but why isn't it being watched. As for comparisons to Taxi Driver, just because it has similar themes does not mean it is a rehash, imitation or ripoff. enjoy it on it's own merits. It is extremely rare for a movie to not have any similarities to any single other movie in the past.
I am on a tight budget and do not actively seek specific DVDs, but if i saw this movie on the shelf at a reasonable price, and I had the cash on me I would definately purchase this as I would love to watch it again, and I would probably like to rewatch it every 5 years or so. IMO it is a movie that can be watched over and over again.

I know I am repeating myself, but I REALLY don't understand why movie networks on cable TV don't screen this, why cinemas that screen independant cult movies don't screen it, and why it doesn't have a cult following.

Lastly, I apologise if my ramblings have ended up being pointless waffle.

I don't suffer from insanity. I enjoy every minute of it!

I think it's an amazing film. I just watched it again last night. Michael Wyle is stunning in this film. He has the eyes of an obsessive, of a drug user, that I have seen in sick people. Michael Wyle does some amazing things in this film, acting with his face, his eyes, his voice: where is he now? The film works because it makes us care about this character - a character most would avoid in real life. I love the scenes in which he tries to make a connection with ppl, but just doesn't know how to talk to them. When he asks out Meredeith, it is painful to listen to, but I am sure it is meant to be. The tension you created between Wyle and the other characters in the film is fascinating, and there are some grimly amusing moments when Ernest uses inappropriate words. He is so strange. The scenes between Wyle & McComb are tender and touching. The climax is blistering, and the epilogue is haunting - the subtle signs that all is not right, still. The way he looks into the mirror, into the camera: "I get what I deserve: life." While your film doesn't get much distribution (it would seem), I would say it is a small masterpiece that has a massive impact on me - every time.

I'll see it. Even if it seems like a flagrant rip off Taxi Driver. I'm sure it has its own nuances though.

These are some movies of mine. Enjoy!
