Is there anyone who can confirm that the European (Region 2)version of this DVD has English subtitles on it? I want to buy it but cannot get the DVD version in the UK, only video is available. I am prepared to import from France but only if I can watch it in my own language or with subtitles. Any assistance would be welcome.

Today the BBFC reclassified Germinal for an impending UK release. It's still rated 15, and it will still be slightly cut (compulsory cut to remove 30 seconds that depicts real animal cruelty -- two cocks fighting -- to comply with the Cinematograph Films (Animals) Act 1937). The version they classified just now is indeed in the original French language.
