David: I dont want to be your lover.

Why does David say that to Vivian (his ex-girlfriend)? It was kind of implied that he was still in love with her, so how come he wasn't interested in her suggestion? I was kind of surprised by that. Is it just me?

reply

Well I thought - and sometimes things get lost in translation - that she just wanted to mess around with him but he was interested in something much more serious. Did that not seem the case to you?

reply

Yeah I did get that too.. but I still thought that he wouldnt say no.

reply

in Spanish "amante" which is the word he used, usually means your "affair".
So he didnt want to be her affair, he wanted to be her lover.

I guess he wanted her for himself, or not at all.

Because she's a married woman. If she was going to run off with David, then that would be one thing, but (like the person above me said) she just wanted him on the side - and that's not cool.

reply

Well, basically he was totally in love with her, and then she dumped him for another man she did not loved or respected. She married the other guy only because he was a political, influential and "wealthy" figure.

On top of that she suggested to David they could "fool around together" and cheat on her husband. David wanted a real relationship, but instead he finally realized how shallow she was and told her he wasn't interested on been just an affair.
