Willy is freed...

...And then goes straight out to the ocean to eat his first pod of baby Humpback whales. Oh, the irony.

He's a killer whale. What would you have him do? Irony would be if he captured the humpback whales, trained them and made them perform for kicks. Buy a dictionary.

Good guys may not finish last but they sure as sh*t don't finish first!

The irony I was expressing in my post was pertaining to one of the underlying tones of the movie - exemplified as "save the whales". Because Willy is, indeed, a whale - the death of baby humpback whales in subsequent to his release would be ironic. Theoretically, the emancipation of a killer whale, which would lead to the killing of other whales, is in contradiction to the "save the whales" ideal. Clearer now? I guess it takes more of a non-linear thought process to understand my original post.

I think you picked up a thesaurus by accident. Have another go.

I'm sorry; those words too big for you?

reply

No they're clearly too big for you since you're not very good at stringing them together. Be that as it may you can hardly claim animal cruelty in allowing a natural predator to remain in his habitat.

You sir, have succeeded in making me lose interest in this thread. Nowhere did I once proclaim animal cruelty as being an underlying tone of the movie (in relation to Willy being let go, that is). You seem to enjoy acting high and mighty; would you be so kind as to point out the errors in my post, Mr. Ben Stein?

reply

Well I was never really that interested myself and it would appear nobody else was either. Given the pretentious drivel you spouted I'm amazed you have the gall to accuse me of being high and mighty. Why don't you take your thesaurus and fire up 'Three fugitives' something commensurate with your movie intellect.

You sure do know how to make a person laugh! You consistently mock my writing skills - yet have not specified a single problem with its usage. On the other hand, I found several errors in your punctuation. Here, let me fix up your last post:

Not completely atrocious, as you did spell correctly. Just some minor punctuation errors. Typically, I don't burden myself with the grammar used by others, unless they set out to ridicule mine first. Discuss the topic at hand next time. Nobody likes an English critic. Perhaps you should continue your critiquing here, instead:

Nice job looking through my post history. Commendable. Very commendable. I guess I should start appreciating movies like The Rock and GoldenEye. Then again, action films are often too Hollywood-esque for my taste. I prefer old classics and artistic foreign films from the 50s and 60s, which arguably have more subsistence than modern Hollywood filth.

I have a very funny feeling.

While i find myself agreeing more so with goo than mikey in this little flame war, at least as far as the definition of irony is concerned, in regards to goos second post I have to point out that killers whales aren't whales, they are the largest of the dolphin family.

May the wind carry your shuriken into the eyes of your enemy, not sideways into your friends face.

hahahahahaahahaaahhahaa

I just read two people fighting over grammar on a thread based on Free Willy. I can die happy.

Really fun movie, was great

You're either dumb or sick. Are you suggesting to exterminate a species of whales, to "save" the rest?

I'll tell you something, kid. There isn't 1 unique case of a predator species that led its prey species into extinction. Not even 1.

In Nature, life is balanced. The weak dies, so the strong lives. You can see that as a sad thing, but that ensures all species get stronger over time.

A species member following his instinct is never a bad thing, or is that individual a bad or imoral guy. He's doing what worked, when his ancestors evolved into stronger beings.

It's only mankind that hunts and kills animals and plants, not to eat, but to make clothes, makeup, or just for fun.

Stopping predators from hunting is as against Nature as capturing and locking an animal.
