That part pisses me off so much!! What type of parents lets their kids do that?? I know it's an important part of the movie because it sets all of the events in motion but it just makes me so mad!! They should have had some sort of security down there.

I think filmmakers just wanted to point some blame on people that go to these kinds of aquariums and circus, that use captive animals to earn money.
Anyway, in Brasil a father let his son provoke a lion and offer chicken bones to him. The lion attacked and pulled out his arm. It was even oraclely predicted by a Simpsons episode!
