Am I the only who noticed...(contains spoiler)
...that Christopher Lambert's character (John Henry Brennick) had an obvious homoerotic crush on the very good-looking young Hispanic man played by Clifton Gonzales-Gonzales ("Nino Gomez" And I also can't help but wonder how a young Hispanic actor would feel at being consistently made into an almost feminized sex/ desire object the way the Gomez character was by this movie?)? At the end when Brennick character escapes the Fortress with his wife and Gomez, that's why the writers pretty much had no choice but to kill off Gomez. Had Gomez hung around, would he have discovered that "John Henry was a steel-drivin' man" in fact as well as in song? :-D
