Am I the only who noticed...(contains spoiler)

...that Christopher Lambert's character (John Henry Brennick) had an obvious homoerotic crush on the very good-looking young Hispanic man played by Clifton Gonzales-Gonzales ("Nino Gomez" And I also can't help but wonder how a young Hispanic actor would feel at being consistently made into an almost feminized sex/ desire object the way the Gomez character was by this movie?)? At the end when Brennick character escapes the Fortress with his wife and Gomez, that's why the writers pretty much had no choice but to kill off Gomez. Had Gomez hung around, would he have discovered that "John Henry was a steel-drivin' man" in fact as well as in song? :-D

Ah, the prison jokes. Who's the bitch in that relationship?

But, honestly, why does everyone think that Brennick is a homosexual? Yes, it does encourage some gay jokes.

Ah, and the gay jokes too. Wish I could make one, but I'm not that funny. Sorry.

He just seems terribly protective towards Gomez. And they only met upon being processed into the Fortress! I mean, jeez, he went up against the big crazy guy with the "187" on his forehead when 187-guy was raping Gomez. And he took the blame for starting the whole thing to protect Gomez when they all got in trouble with the prison authorities. And when Gomez took of his shirt in the laser-cage scene and 187 is torturing him by spitting on the laser-bars, it was like a big sparkly sign above Gomez's head saying, "HOMOEROTIC MALE SEX OBJECT"!

Yes. I said in my original post that they pretty much had to kill off Nino because he would have been in competition with Mrs. Brennick for Brennick's affections.

How did Gomez get killed? I just saw the movie on TV and apparently they cut out a lot of the more violent scenes.

This is how I saw it: after they escaped you see their truck driving in the desert and via voiceover you hear that Mrs Brennick's water just broke. Nino explains that this means she's getting the baby (doh). Right after that it cuts to the end scene where you see Brennick and his wife holding their baby. No sign as to what happened to Nino. What was it?

He was hit by a truck that was being remotely controlled by the evil computer. Yeah, I really fancied Gomez, and he was a character we were supposed to like, and it ticked me off that he was eliminated so casually. I'm convinced they did so because there was such obvious romantic chemistry between him and Brennick, and so he had to be taken out of the picture in order for everything to be "neatly" wrapped up.

That must be an edited version then because I've had the DVD for years and he gets killed in my version. The truck they stole comes alive and run's him over. If it makes you feel better the scene was filmed with a painfully obvious stunt double so it's not so hard to watch. ;)

Jesus, a man can be fond of and adopt a protective attitude toward a younger man without being gay.

The stupidity of many of the posts here never ceases to amaze me.

Well these boards will be toast in less than two weeks, so be happy. :-)

Wow, if he is willing to risk going to prison to protect his beard, i wonder how badly homosexuality is frowned on in this future. I guess simply having a wife was not enough he had to have the kid as well.
