Well, well...

... and then people complain there are so few movies "worth watching" these days!

This is an absolute gem!
It's full of humour - actually hilarious at times - and heartbreaking at the same time. And even though I said in my review that it was about "senior dating" - and it is - there are practically no cliches. in this film. It's refreshing, funny, wonderful.

I wish I could discuss it with someone here... (:

I loved it, too. And my long time husband was named Chuck and he was from Oklahoma! Brian Dennehy and Joanne Woodward were both excellent in this. I wish it would come on again as I don't remember it well, but I know I really enjoyed it.

Every so often I go back and visit the sites of some of my favorite Brian Dennehy movies (the ones where he plays the good guy and those are few and far between. Anyway, this one is at the top of the list. I also like A Real American Hero, which is another take on the character of Buford Pusser, the sheriff without a gun. He does the best version, in my opinion. Being a "senior", I find Foreign Affairs very refreshing and would love to have been Vinnie. It seems to give hope to those of us not slim and attractive and young, that maybe out there somewhere is someone who needs our love and friendship. I don't know how it would have turned out if Chuck had not died, but it didn't seem inappropriate with his life style.
I LOVE England and everything about it, but even though Brian is not English (being Irish instead), he really makes the country a pleasant place to visit. Good writing always helps and a good script will help a movie nearly as much as the right casting. In this case......the casting was ideal!! I also loved Vinnie's contact in England....a very funny little man who leaned the opposite way in love, but was easy to accept. I'd love to go to England and meet some people like this. (And wouldn't it be great to meet someone like Chuck Mumpson?)

To Mary-A fellow Dennehy fan-Did you ever see "The Seduction of Miss Leona"-where he costarred with Lynn Redgrave, as the college professor who fell in love with his lovable handyman character? Highly Recommended.

Thank you so much for the heads up on a movie I haven't seen. I will definitely be asking my daughter to get it for me if it is available on her Netflix account. :)

Searched everywhere but could not find a copy of The Seduction of Miss Leona. Then I discovered it had been re-issued under a different title. To Love Again. And Amazon had quite a few copies from dealers. Netflix only carries DVDs. So I took the chance and ordered a copy. Brian was only 42 when he made that, against 55 when he made FA. Haven't seen much from those years. Thanks for the heads-up, Dini.
