Avery cleaned the beer?

Mitch breaks his beer bottle in the closet, right before Tom Cruise was coming out of it, almost literally (sorry, I had to make this joke).
Anyway, he cannot clean it properly so he just locks the door and goes away with Avery.
This accident doesn't come up ever again.
I think Avery found it, cleaned it, and protected Mitch by not ratting out on him with his other partners.
What do you guys think?
Avery cleaned it or was it the maid or it dried itself up or who did it?

Had to be Avery. They wouldn't give a maid access to those files and if the Firm's security team found it, they'd have been on Mitch way earlier.

I don't think this necessarily means Avery was protecting Mitch per se. The plan was to gain leverage over Mitch sufficient to keep him loyal. Knowing Mitch had peeked at the files could simply have been more leverage.

As for why Avery kept it to himself, he's clearly no longer 100% loyal to the firm. Maybe he'd keep info like this in his back pocket in case he needed to use Mitch for his own purposes.

Good catch though; I'd forgotten about that particular loose end.

You're right, it's a loose end and one easily forgotten about. I just watched the movie earlier today and by the end I had completely forgotten about the beer.

I think there's a good chance that the answer to this question ended up on the cutting room floor. Just doesn't seem like Pollack would throw a detail in like that and then just never address it. I'd be very surprised if that scene wasn't an editing casualty.

I dunno... I think it could have been a maid. Here's why: For the firm to have that swanky condo in the Cayman's like that, I am sure they have a crew they could trust. Even still, think about this - some low-level worker/maid that sees a broken beer bottle is just going to attempt to clean it up. After all, Mitch had a key for that door as well. It's not like it was hidden from him. Also, said low-level maid/worker isn't going to give a flying rat's ass about a bunch of boxes on them that say "Moralto" or whatever. Just a thought....

Well, I don't agree with your take for one major detail: those documents are clearly sensitive stuff.
No way the firm, who decided to store that kind of paper down there (I guess the fact that itis in the Cayman is already a good reason to have it there and not in the US), had the keys to that closet available for the cleaners. I agree the cleaners wouldn't give a shit about that stuff, but it's mafia stuff, imagine if some competing family or some fbi etc got that info from some cleaner that could read, no way that's a risk to ignore.
That's the kind of place where only a few, trusted associates (like Avery) can get to. I would consider it like a safe for them.
Mitch had the key only from Avery's ring, and he just took that key instead of the minibar key by mistake.
So I think Avery saw the mess, cleaned it up, didn't say anything to anybody thinking "what the hell, he's gonna find out sooner or later. And also, what's he gonna do about it?"

That's all I was thinking about the cleaners. If Mitch had a key and he didn't know anything...yet, I figured a maid would too. So, you're right on about it being sensitive material - and the FBI (if they knew...) would love to get their paws on it. Beyond that, good call about Avery's ring - I remember now he was so excited how Mitch dazzled Sonny Kapps that he just gave him the whole key ring. That slipped my mind!
